horse racing


John Peisley owned a horse called "Currency Lass" and on the weekend of 7th and 8th October 1826 it won a race called the Ladies Purse. John was one of the founding members for Rosehill Race course.

1828 Census

In 1828 John died and Elizabeth was the head of the household and in the Census they lived on 3 acres - cleared - cultivated - one horse - 20 cattle - 80 sheep. At the time she lived with the following people. John (born in the colony), Elizabeth (bc), Mary (bc), Martha (bc), William (bc), Robert (bc), Charles Clarke (servant) FS, William Downing (government servant) C, Peter Richardson (government servant) C.
